The Anatomy of Custom Undies

A diagram of custom undies by La Vie en OrangeThis week, I bring you the custom undie, care of an amazing customer, A., who agreed to let me photograph the process for you, dear Reader!  :)

A. took the plunge, emailed me just after Christmas asking about whether she could send me some tshirts to make undies out of.  Could she ever!  :) See below the amazing transformation of A.'s beloved tshirts. :)

How much do you want to work?

So in the spirit of getting organized in the New Years and keeping up with resolutions, this week I thought I'd share the way I keep track of all that's going on with La Vie en Orange.

It helps me manage priorities and keep from feeling overwhelmed with all there is to do and all I could be doing. Check out the video below, or read on for a more detailed written explanation with photos :)

The secret to prosperity in the new year

So what's your secret to prosperity in the new year?

Sauer kraut on New Year's Day (that' s my family's... :))? Orange seeds in the wallet (that was the rule in Guadeloupe)?

I learned this weekend that the real trick is all in what you're wearing at midnight. New yellow panties = prosperity in the new year.  For reals.  :)

Gifty 2011

What a whirlwind- I can't believe it's already December!

I've been thinking about holiday shopping and trying to ride the fine line between being thoughtful, giving something that people will use, and not necessarily playing into the consumerism of the season. Buying handmade is one way I like to do this.  :)

Below you'll find some ideas I had, some of what my friends are doing, and some fun ideas/tutorials I found and hope to give a shot :)

I'd love to hear about what you're doing for friends and loved ones for the holidays too- please comment below!

First, exciting things are happening in my studio, at La Vie en Orange! Home screen printing is starting to be successful, and I've been printing two fun new motifs:

Calling all fit models!

Ladies! It is your lucky day!

I am looking for a few fit models to help me make sure that some of my Upitees sizes are up to snuff.

Do you want a free pair of underwear? Are you very close to any of the measurements sets listed below? Would you be willing to share feedback with me about how they fit?

Yes, yes, and yes?

Hooray! I'd love to send you a pair! I'm working on 4 sizes right now- at opposite ends of the spectrum:

It's a two-for!

So I wanted to bounce an idea off of you.

I read a blog post from Seattle City Council member Sally Bagshaw about women's shelters really needing new pairs of underwear right now.

My first thought was, "I make underwear! Of course I can help!"

But I feel a little sheepish about it, like I'm also trying to run a lucrative business, and this feels counter productive to my bottom line. But it's not always about the bottom line (but it is always about bottoms, with me :)).

Bubbles, Mariachis, and Zigzagging

I am so excited- I've been feeling this way for a while. Full of inspiration, like it's bubbling to the surface and just about to overflow.

Every time I turn around, I feel like I'm being fish slapped in the face with inspiration (you know what I mean- a salty, scaley fish is making my cheeks slimy. Slimy with inspiration. Wow random.).

I bought 32 spools of thread last night to help get my Etsy shop ready for the holidays. I've finished three pairs of Upitees in the last three days- all that's left is to do a quick photo shoot, and all this momentum just keeps building.

The many colors of future Upitees
